There are many options for activities to highlight popular movies. Teachers can organize a culture hours program, show clips to reinforce a concept, or play movie games. Download a list of popular movies organized by theme here!
Here are our students’ favorite MOVIE GAMES!
Movie Titles Game - Students look at a list of 10 popular movies in Spanish. They have a set amount of time to try to figure out what the movie titles are in English. We use a game board that we made with movies organized by type of film such as romantic comedies, classics, movies with Hispanic themes, etc. At the bottom of each of the slides, there are video clips from that category to show the students and to spark a discussion about their favorite actors, movies genres, etc.
Another fun game that we created is called Películas Populares. The students each receive a summary of a popular movie or a movie with a Hispanic theme. The class receives a movie guessing sheet where they write down the movie they think they are hearing described by their classmates. After the students guess the name of the movie, we show them a clip in Spanish from that movie. We follow up the game with a group discussion about their favorite Disney movies, the movie they wish they had never seen, the movies they have seen so many times they have memorized the dialogue, etc.
Las Estrellas del Cine includes a “Name that movie” game, many writing activities, a design a movie poster and a create a commercial activity as well as summaries and information about the characters and plots of more than 24 movies. Students will especially love the movie stars game and questions to see which team wins the Oscar!
